27 Oct 1916: Honoured Military Medal, ANZAC / Gallipoli, For devotion to duty and gallantry under fire by volunteering to remain behind with C.3 party at Lone Pine in company with 125 Sgt. Frank Sylvester McCooey during the evacuation of Gallipoli on the night of 19/20 December 1915. By their energy and with the aid of very few men they maintained the usual fire from a section of Lone Pine, deceiving the Turks. They were the last NCOs to leave Lone Pine, Gallipoli.
