His half-brother 3976 Pte. William Harold Baldwin 2nd Battalion was killed in action at Pozieres five days later on 24 July 1916. They both had the same father, William Henry Baldwin who had remarried after the death of his first wife in 1887. William Harold Baldwin was from the first marriage and Eric Victor Baldwin from the second marriage.
