Son of Robert Vallance and Catherine Vallance nee McPhee of 'Mullawilla', Wycheproof, Victoria. 

Commenced return to Australia on 17 January 1919 aboard HT Ulysses disembarking on 10 March 1919.

During 1920c Malcolm married Grace Borlase Hams in Victoria.
