Cameron, Ewen Colclough (Matte) (1889–1950)
"In the passing of Ewan [Ewen] Colclough Beauchamp Cameron, the West, and indeed Queensland has lost one of its most colorful identities," says the Cunnamulla "Watchman".

"Matte" Cameron as he was popularly known, died in hospital in Toowoomba on 16th June at the age of 60 years. A noted scholar and athlete he narrowly missed being elected the States Rhodes Scholar in 1908, he was considered a certainty for that honour the following year, but circumstances ruled otherwise.

He served on Galllipoli in the First World War and later in France was severely wounded. He rose to the rank of Captain and served with a picked body of men known as the "Dunstan Force"[Dunsterforce] which was sent to Baku in Russia and had an adventurous career.

He was a member of a large family. Mr. K. B. Cameron of "Bullamon Plains" Thallon being a brother.
