Harold Harry ABELL was born in 1893 in Leicester, England
His parents were George ABELL and Mary Eliza SAGGS who married in 1887 in Leicester.
The family emigrated to Brisbane, Queensland on 28th January 1909 on the ship Oswestry Grange - his parents George & Mary & siblings Millicent, Frank, George & Nellie - they arrived in Brisbane on 25th March, 1909
Harold had previously served in the Oxley Volunteers before ne enlisted on 28th August, 1914 with the 9th Infantry Battalion , they embarked from Brisbane on the ship Omrah on 24th September, 1916
He died of Wounds on 21st April, 1916 and is buried in Merville Communal Cemetery - his name is memorialised on the Australian War Memorial - he was awarded the 1914-15 Star, British War Medal & the Victory Medal.
