Hugh was born as Farquhar Hugh LAMONT in Moe, Gippsland, Victoria in 1891
His parents were Farquhar LAMONT & Ellen LEA
He enlisted on 16th March, 1915 and embarked with the 24th Infantry Battalion from Melbourne on the HMAT Euripides on 10th May, 1915 & served in Egypt, Gallipoli & the Western Front
Hugh died of self inflicted wounds in France on 27th May, 1916 and is buried in the Erquinghem-Lys Churchyard Extension - his name is memorialised on the Australian War Memorial

His brother Frederick Harold LAMONT (SN 1163) also served during WW1 and was missing in action, a prisoner of war and finally repatriated to England in 1918
