Son of John Oakden and Elizabeth Oakden of Argyle Street, Hobart, Tasmania formerly of Paddington, NSW.

Commenced return to Australia on 18 December 1918 aboard HT Aenaes disembarking on 5 February 1919 at Melbourne for onward travel to Tasmania

On 23 February 1920 John married Laura Aherne in St, George's Church, Hobart, Tasmania
