Son of George and Annie Baker of 13 Bennie Street, Brunswick, Victoria. Brother of Raymond Sylvanus Baker MM who returned to Australia on 5 January 1919 having served with the 22nd Battalion
In October 1917 he was recommended for the Military Medal on two occasions but neither were awarded. On 28 January 1918 he was awarded a Congratulatory Citation for his Conspicuous Service
