Husband of Hannah Brown nee Burgess of 'Royston', Helen Street, Artamon, NSW formerly of Parramatta Road, Haberfield, NSW. Ernest and Hannah were married during 1898 in the Paddington district. Father of Ivy May Brown and Ernest Roy Brown

The Sydney Morning Herald on 20 August 1915 reported the death of Lieutenant-Colonel Ernest Samuel Brown at Gallipoli on August 6. Lieut.-Col Brown was 39 years of age. He had previously been wounded in the neck, shoulder, and forearm, but refused to leave the firing line.
He came out to Australia when only three years of age, with his parents, who had resided in Yorkshire. When 19 years of age he joined the R.A.G.A. as a gunner, and rose to the rank of company sergeant-major, and was placed on the instruction staff at Victoria Barracks. He was appointed second lieutenant in April, 1910, full lieutenant the same year; captain (temporary) in 1911 and substantive in 1912. He was on the instruction staff, 2nd Military District from April 1, 1910, to June 30, 1913; Brigade-Major, 8th Brigade area and Brigade-Major of the 8th Infantry from July 1, 1913.
He held the diploma of Military Science, and left here as Captain with the 3rd Battalion, receiving his step as Major while in Egypt, and subsequently being promoted Lieutenant-Colonel. On the death of Lieut.-Col. Braund, Lieut-Col. Brown was given command of the 2nd Battalion.
Lieut-Col. Brown leaves a widow, and a son and daughter, who reside at Royston, Parramatta Road, Haberfield.
