MR W. F. CONAGHAN
Very sincere regret will be felt by a wide circle of friends in Rockhampton and district at the news of the death of Mr W. F. Conaghan, which occurred yesterday morning at Gladesville, NSW. He had been ill for some time, his condition latterly causing anxiety to relatives.
Born at Lismore about 54 years ago, Mr Conaghan lived in the Central District for many years. He conducted the Imperial Hotel, Mt Morgan, before coming to Rockhampton, where he was identified with the management of Airlines of Australia in the initial stages of commercial aviation in this centre. Leaving for the South he devoted his attention to hotel management. For a time he was on the staff of Mr F. J. Pfitzenmaier's Grand Central Hotel, Brisbane, then managed the Criterion in Sydney and for the last five years has been licensee of the Gladesville Hotel. He was a returned soldier of the first world war.
Mr Conaghan was a brother of Mr Hugh Conaghan, Royal Hotel, who has gone to Sydney by plane. A sister (Mrs Parker) resides in Rockhampton, and a brother, Mr D. Conaghan, lives in Brisbane. The last-named is in a serious state of health and Mr Hugh Conaghan had been called to his side when word was received of the passing of the other brother. The sympathy of many friends will be extended lo the relatives.
