Hugh Alphonsus LEFFLER was born in 1893 in Richmond, Victoria

His parents were Ambrose Augustus LEFFLER and Mabel Ann Frances THOMPSON

He enlisted as a private with the 9th Australian Machine Gun Company (3rd Division) on 20th March, 1916 in Sydney and embarked from Sydney on the HMAT Benalla on 1st May, 1916

Hugh died of accidental injuries received on 3rd December, 1916 at Square Farm, Armentieres France, when his rifle discharged as he was getting back in a trench

He is buried in Cite Bonjean Military Cemetery in France and his name is memorialised on the Australian War Memorial

He was awarded the British War Medal & the Victory Medal.
