Henry and his brother Frank both fought in the 1st A.I.F. Henry embarked HMAT A 32 Themistocles in Melbourne on 28 January 1916 and was sent to France with Field Artillery Brigade 6, reinforcement 3 on 4 April. He was appointed Driver with his unit and served in this capacity for the duration of the war. Henry returned to Australia on the Rio Negro from England on 29 May 1919 and was discharged on 15 September.
