Biography

The 9th Infantry Battalion provided ‘cover’ fire for the Gallipoli landing on April 25, 1915. The Battalion landed in two waves - Company A and B were ‘first ashore’ at 4.30am. Horace was in Company D who formed the second wave. He was transported to Anzac Cove on the Beagle and landed on the southern end of the Cove around 6.30 am. During the landing Horace was wounded (shot) in his left forearm. He was admitted to No. 17 General Hospital in Alexandria on April 30, 1915 to have the bullet removed. He rejoined his unit on the Gallipoli Peninsula on June 2, 1915.

Discharged on 21 Feb 1919 after 4½ years service
