"...3230 Private Walter James Armour, 50th Battalion from Port Pirie, South Australia. A 24 year old labourer prior to enlisting on 27 July 1915, he embarked for overseas with the 11th Reinforcements of the 10th Battalion from Adelaide on 27 October 1915 aboard HMAT Benalla. After arriving in Egypt, he transferred to the 50th Battalion and went with them to France in June 1916. Pte Armour was killed in action at Mouquet Farm, France on 16 August 1916 and buried near where he fell. However, after the war his grave could not be located and he is commemorated on the Australian National Memorial at Villers-Bretonneux, France with others who have no known grave." - SOURCE (www.awm.gov.au)

"THE LATE PRIVATE W. J. ARMOUR.

Mr. and Mrs. James Armour, of Port Pirie West, have been notified that their second son, Private Walter J. Armour (who was reported missing in August last, in France), died from concussion from shell shock in the Pozieres battle. Private Armour, who left with reinforcements in October, 1915, was 25 years old. He was born in Mundoora, and was educated at the Mundoora school and St. Mark's school, Port Pirie. Mr. and Mrs. Armour have still two sons on active service, both of whom took part in the landing on Gallipoli. The elder is now in France, back at the firing line, having recovered from wounds received at Pozieres. The younger, who has been wounded on three occasions, has been appointed drill instructor in England." - from the Adelaide Chronicle 27 Jan 1917 (nla.gov.au)
