Son of Jum Carson
'Carson.; — Killed in action in France, between August 5 and 6, Private Jim Carson, only son of Mary Carson, of Coogee, and late James Carson, M.F.B., Sydney, aged 18½ years.'
This death notice speaks to footballers in Australia and New Zealand, for Jum Carson, the father of the soldier-boy who died on the battlefield was one of the most distinguished forwards Rugby football  ever knew. He was a New Zealander, who came across to Sydney and made a big name by his skill in the light blue jersey of New South Wales, and in the black one of the old Pirates' Club, of which Mr.  J. R. Henderson was the guiding genius. Jum Carson died some years ago. If he had lived he would have been proud of the part played in the higher game of his boy.
