'ROLL OF HONOUR.
ALLARD.— In loving memory of my dear son, Private J. J. Allard, who was killed in action at Dernancourt, France, 5th April, 1918, in his 21st year.
Had I but seen him at the last,
Or watched by his dying bed,
Or heard the last faint sigh of his heart,
Or held his aching head,
My heart, I think, would not have felt
This bitterness and grief;
But God has ordered otherwise,
And now he rests in peace.
Inserted by his loving mother, sister, and brother.' - from the Brisbane Telegraph 5 pr 1919 (nla.gov.au)
