Son of George Vidler and Mary Ann Vidler nee Sutherland of Euroa, Victoria.

Brother of Edward Gerald Vidler who died of pneumonia at sea on 27 July 1916 aboard HT Ayrshire. Commemorated on the Hollybrook Memorial, Southampton, England and Dougald Vidler who returned to Australia on 30 April 1919 having served with the 24th Battalion.

Commenced return to Australia on 10 July 1919 aboard HT Oxfordshire disembarking on 13 August 1919
