Son of William Alfred Hewish and Emma Louise Hewish nee Merry of Frost Street, Euroa, Victoria.
Brother of Glen Arthur Stanley Hewish who returned to Australia on 6 May 1920 having served with the 12th Field Artillery Brigade and Francis Ivo Hewish who returned to Australia on 23 December 1918 having served with the 2nd Field Company Engineers
