He was 23 and the son of Robert Walter and Alice Knowles; husband of Gladys Mary Knowles, of Risdon Farm, Beaworthy, Devon, England.

Died on this date - 30th January........Percy Robert Knowles was born at Arncliffe, Sydney, NSW in 1894. He enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force (A.I.F.) on 10th April, 1916 as a 22 year old, married, Carpenter from Lindfield, Sydney, NSW.
Private Knowles arrived in England on 9th July, 1916 for further training then proceeded overseas to France for active duty on 21st November, 1916. He was promoted to Corporal on 26th December, 1916, vice Corporal Gearty killed.
Corporal Knowles was promoted to Sergeant from 30th June, 1917.
Sergeant Knowles was on leave to England from 5th November, 1917. While on leave in England he was admitted to Military Hospital at Fovant, Wiltshire on 3rd December, 1917 “seriously ill” - cause - N.Y.D. (not yet determined).
Sergeant Percy R. Knowles died at 3.55 a.m. on 30th January, 1918 from Pneumonia & Nephritis. He was buried in Compton Chamberlayne War Graves Cemetery where 27 other WW1 Australian soldiers are buried.
