Fred was the youngest of seven children of Richard Baxter Casey (b1851 in Cork, Ireland) and Mary Elizabeth Chaplin (b1855 in Melbourne, Victoria. Richard immigrated with his parents and siblings in the mid 1850s and settled at Three Mile Creek in Beechworth, Victoria (Gold Rush). He and Mary married in Beechworth in 1873 - they lived in Beechworth and Whorouly in Victoria and Forbes and Cobar in NSW before moving to Melbourne, Victoria in the mid 1880s. Following Richard's death in 1903, Mary moved to Perth, WA.
Fred was a Shearer in Perth, WA in November 1914 when he enlisted in the AIF (Private, Driver; Service No:5451). He served in France with 2/4th ASC and 48th Infantry Battalion and was in Rugby, England in January 1919 when he married Dorothy Nellie Burrows (b1897 in Devon, England). Fred was Discharged in September 1919.
Following his Discharge, Fred and Dorothy settled at Circle Valley in Dundas, Kalgoorlie WA where Fred was a Farmer. Fred died in 1935 and Dorothy returned to England with their two children, and worked as an Assistant Canteen Manageress. Son Cyril Richard Casey (b1921) was KiA in 1942 whilst on a Familiarisation Flight in Malta - he served with the RNVR (Sub Lieutenant/Telegraphist; 828 Squadron) on board HMAS St Angelo.
Dorothy died in Fremantle WA in 1984.
