Harrie Barnes and his younger brother Charles S. Barnes both joined up in Melbourne during 1915 and left Australia with different units. Somehow, they managed to be both transferred to the 14th Battalion in early 1916. During the Battle of Pozieres it was said they were in the same platoon, and both were in the bay of trench traverse which was blown in by a heavy shell and they were killed instantly. Both of their parents had died in 1914 and their sister stated they were both associated with Albert Park in Melbourne.
