Andrew was born at 17 Thirlmere Road, Everton and was baptised at St.Saviour's C.of E. Church, Everton on 1st November 1893. His father was a club collector at the time of Andrew's birth.
The family name was more often spelt as Bailie or Baillie.
He was the son of Matthew Bailey and Margaret (nee Taggart). His parents were married in 1887 in County Tyrone, Ireland, where they were both born.
Andrew was one of eight children, only four of whom survived childhood. His eldest sister, Mary Elizabeth, was born in Tyrone in 1888 before the family moved to Liverpool. Margaret Janet was born in 1896 and was baptised at Rosalind Street Chapel, Kirkdale. Matthew James was born in 1898 and Robert George was born in 1900 but died in 1901.
In 1891 the family home was at 17 Thirlmere Road, Everton where they were running a grocers shop. Margaret Bailey's sister, Sarah Taggart, was also a member of the household.
By 1901 Matthew Bailey was working as a dock labourer and the family had moved to 20 Nelson Road, Litherland. His widowed mother, Mary, was also living with the family.
Andrew was also a dock labourer in 1911 and was living with his family at 58 Dryden Street, Bootle.
He is remembered on the Merseyside Roll of Honour.
