Military Medal
'For his conspicuous courage and coolness in action near ZONEBEKE on 26th September, 1917. He showed an utter contempt for danger and when a party of enemy riflemen opened fire from a shell hole he rushed the post and by means of a mills bomb killed or wounded the occupants. His cool behaviour caused great amusement and was a cheerful example to his comrades. After the Blue Line was consolidated he acted as a scout and brought valuable information to his Company Commander when enemy attempted to concentrate for counter attacks.'
