Biography contributed by Robert Wight

An 18 year old labourer prior to enlisting on 20 November 1915, he embarked for overseas with the 15th Reinforcements from Melbourne on 7 March 1916 aboard HMAT Wiltshire (A18).

After arriving in Egypt, he transferred to the 59th Battalion and went with them to France in June 1916. While serving in the Sailly region, he was wounded in action on 19 July 1916 and evacuated to England for medical treatment.

After returning to Australia, Pte Coxhell was discharged medically unfit for further service on 15 March 1917. However, he did re-enlist for home service on 19 October 1917 only to again be discharged medically unfit on 25 July 1918.

His brother, 3715 Pte Leslie Coxhell, 46th Battalion was killed in action at Pozieres, France on 9 August 1916.
