3 May 1917: | Honoured Military Medal, Bullecourt (First), "For conspicuous gallantry during the assault on the BULLECOURT Trenches on 3rd May, 1917. With his Lewis Gun he established an isolated post in a shell hole on our left flank and remained there with C.S.M. Power for 48 hours. During this period he repeatedly brought effective fire to bear on the enemy, replenishing his ammunition from the dead in the vicinity. He returned to our lines only on exhausting his ammunition and after receiving 3 wounds. | |
