A farm hand from Wallington via Geelong, Victoria prior to enlistment, Pte Harding embarked with the 5th Reinforcements from Melbourne on HMAT Anchises on 14 March 1916.
Later wounded in action, he was evacuated to England. Following his recovery he transferred to the 58th Battalion and returned to Australia on 15 May 1919.
