He served under the alias of Albert Shaw, his correct name was Thomas Andrew Ahearne.

Albert Shaw (real name Thomas Ahearne) contracted influenza on Gallipoli 23 October 1915 and was returned to Australia on 28 January 1916. He recovered from his illness and was transferred to the 40th Battalion (& given new S/N 1054). He re-embarked overseas on 1 July 1916.
