Biography contributed by Adelaide Botanic High School

Private Everett Luke Sumner (1896-1966), a labourer and soldier, was born on the 12th of June 1896 at Point McLeay, South Australia, to mother Rebecca Ulimbo and an unnamed father. There are no records of his education, and he was enlisted on the 27th of April 1916, when he was 19. He embarked on the HMAT A70 Ballarat when he was 20, from Adelaide South Australia. He fought in the 32nd Infantry Battalion.

Everett survived the war, and returned on the 10th of June 1919. Everett never got married, and later in his life developed several health issues. He checked into the Daw Park Repatriation Hospital, and deteriorated slowly, dying of cerebral thrombosis on the 10th of December 1966, age 70. His next in kin was his nephew, Howard Sumner, who took care of anything left over. His funeral took place at the West Terrace cemetery, and he can be found at the Raukkan Aboriginal Community War Memorial and the Raukkan Mission Ngarrindjeri Anzacs Memorial.
