Edward Leonard Carlyon, nicknamed Ted, was born on the 13th of February 1886 in Wilmington, South Australia to his parents, Willian Charles Carlyon, and Grace Carlyon. He had 7 Siblings, William Charles Carlyon, Rosa Kinsman Dunstan, Grace Saunders, Elizabeth Ann Carlyon, Sampson Carlyon, and Anita Jane Baeker.

According to his Attestation Papers Ted had blue eyes and brown hair, and he was 5’5. He was married to Martha Agnes Carlyon and ad a job as a Wheat Agent. When he was 29 years and 11 months old, he enlisted into WW1 on the 8th of March 1916. He emnbarked from Australia 11th April 1916. He went via Alexandrina to Plymouth in England disembarking 16th June 1916 and marched in to the 50th Battalion the next day, moving to France later that month

Whilst on active service he went absent without leave from 3pm on the 16/8/17 till 5pm 19/8/17. His punishment was 28 days without pay. He went on leave a couple of times and even went to Paris in August 1918. 

He returned home on the 12th of May 1919. At the age of 83 years old on the 28th of August 1969, he died to natural causes. He now rests in Centennial Park Cemetery, South Australia, General AD, Path 13, Grave 926.
