Biography

Norman Griffiths ELLSWORTH was born 1886  in Creswick, Victoria

His parents were Frederick Wallcott ELLSWORTH and Mary Menzies Mortimer TILTON

He had previous service for 9 years with the Militia and then enlisted on 19th August 1914 with the  Field Artillery Brigade 2, Battery 4, Unit embarked from Melbourne on board the ship Shropshire on 20th October, 1914

He was in charge of the first and only gun that landed in Gallipoli on the 25th April, 1915 (information from his Mother) He was transferred to the 1st Field Artillery Brigade on 30th Dec. 1916 when he was also promoted to Battery Sergeant Major. He also spent time with the 102nd and 116th Howitzer Batterys

Norman died of wounds on 31st July 1917 at Zillebeke near Ypres, Belgium and is buried in The Huts Cemetery in Belgium
