Biography contributed by John Edwards

"Information was received through the millitary authorities last week that Corporal Fred C. Shaw had been killed in action in France on September 29. Coporal Shaw had served through the Boer War, and had been in France for the past 12 months. He was well known, and very popular, and before leaving for the Front was on the staff of the National Mutual Life Asociation of Australasia, Limited, for 22 years. He was also prominent in Masonic circles, being a past master of the General Gordon Lodge, English Constitution. He was the eldest son of Mr. F.E. Shaw, of Ingham, and married a daughter of Mr. John Bell, Clytha, Wooloowin. He leaves a widow and little son, for whom great sympathy is felt." - from the Queenslander 10 Nov 1917 (nla.gov.au)
