This vicinity was periodically heavily shelled by the enemy and this tended to disorganise the work. Sergeant Bailey, by his energy and coolness under trying conditions, kept his men at work and he was mainly responsible for a regular supply of material being kept forward. He was in charge of similar trucking parties on 13th and 14th October, 1917. This N.C.O. also displayed great coolness with a reconnoitring party on 26th September, 1917, near Polygon Wood, east of Ypres. He penetrated an enemy barrage and obtained valuable information.'
