Leslie Amiet was assigned to ‘A’ Company, 22nd Depot Battalion in February 1916, and then as 16th Reinforcements to 4th Light Horse Regiment to embark with them on the 18th April, 1916 on HMAT Itria (A53) from Melbourne (VIC). He arrived in Egypt and was taken onto strength with the 1st Light Horse Training Regiment at Tel-el-Kebir on 29th May, 1916. He was then taken onto strength with the 1st Light Horse Double Squadron on the 6th July, 1916 and then when it was disbanded in November, he went to and was taken onto strength with the Australian Training Camel Regiment on 2nd November, 1916. At Ferry Post on 23rd February, 1917 he was taken onto strength with the 4th Light Horse Machine Gun Squadron. On the 16th April, 1918 he was at hospital with a sprained ankle ‘On the evening of the 16th inst while playing foot-ball, I landed my right foot and twisted the ankle. I was unable to play on and reported to the A.M.C Details’ witnessed by Major Cyril Weedon. He was transferred to a rest camp at Port Said on the 13th May, then onto Australian Machine Gun Training Squadron on the 22nd May. He rejoined the unit on the 28th from the Training Squadron. He went to hospital on the 23rd November, and discharged to Cairo on the 4th January, 1919. He embarked to Australia on July 24th, 1919 on Dongola and arrived back to 3rd Military District on the 28th August, 1919. He died aged 91 on the 20th April, 1988.
