27 Jan 1917: Involvement AIF WW1, Private, 1457, Commendation from Corps Commander for Gallantry. For gallantry and prompt action under shell fire in the front line.At Armentieres on the morning of 26/01/1917 during intense enemy bombardment, and after being knocked down by the body of a man who was killed by a shell. He rescued 1056 Private Jones who was severely wounded in both feet and carried him on his back under shell fire to a place of safety.
