From Matthew Freckelton, Australia and NZ in WWI
Remembering today, my Great Great Uncle "Barney".... 755 Corporal James Maxwell Bates 12th ALH 1st Reinforcements. Gallipoli Veteran and Beersheba Charger, he fought out the war in the Middle East. Honoured and revered in our family, he was a big tough Cattle Farmer. I was lucky enough to meet him when I was a child. Crazily, his great Niece, my Mother and the great Nephew of Donald Cameron, who led the 12th in the Charge until very recently lived 2 doors apart in Northern NSW. "Barney's" memorabilia, research notes and files are securely housed in this hand made Australian Red Cedar Frame. An Australian Hero, never forgotten.
