... reported on the death of Owen Centennius Hawkes saying.... he was born in St Peters ...and educated at East Adelaide State School and Prince Alfred College and became an expert orchardist in partnership laid out a large garden in Inglewood. 

With ill health he moved to Renmark from where he enlisted in 12th battalion AIF ... until he transferred in Egypt to a machine gun company (13th) fighting for nearly 2 years along the Belgium and French fronts continually mentioning meeting old acquaintances in his letters home...

Owen Centenius HAWKES was born in Maylands, Adelaide, South Australia on 26th January 1888

His parents were John Henry Mason HAWKES & Rosina (Rose) BROOKS
