Edward Emmanuel Alenius was working as a timber worker in Bridgetown, Western Australia when he enlisted. He was Finnish and gave his next of kin as his brother in Finland. He only joined the 51st Battalion two weeks before he was killed during the fighting for Mouquet Farm on 3 September 1916.

His medals etc. were sent to his brother Verner Olof Alenius of Kuopio, Finland. His remains were discovered by the Imperial War Graves Commission during 1923 and identified by the presence of his identity disc. The disc was also forwarded to the soldier’s brother and sister in Finland.
