Died at Sea
According to the dairy of FH Smith, on the 29th Dec 1914 he was granted leave to take Pte Acreman ashore for treatment, however the weather was too rough to get ashore and they agreed to wait until the next morning. Again the weather was too rough to go ashore and so Acreman was to remain on the "Borda". FH Smith describes the 1st of January 1915 as follows "Year started badly, Acreman died from enteric fever at 5am. Buried at 11.40am of the starboard saloon deck, Major Windeyer read Buriel Service, all men being dressed in full drill uniform no volley fired. Body placed on plank off hold, feet weighed and dropped feet first. very short service, about 7 or 8 minutes. Body was strewn in canvas covering and weighted with firebars".

"...481 Private Benjamin Andrew Acreman, 2nd Light Horse Field Ambulance from Windsor, Queensland. A 20 year old benchman prior to enlisting on 19 November 1914, he embarked for overseas from Brisbane on 16 December 1914 aboard HMAT Borda. Pte Acreman died of typhoid fever on New Year's Day 1915, while en route to Colombo onboard the same ship on which he had embarked less than three weeks earlier..." - SOURCE (www.awm.gov.au)
