Brother of Albert Ernest Zimmer who returned to Australia on 5 August 1919 having served with the 58th Battalion; Claude Patrick Zimmer who returned to Australia on 13 March 1918 having served with the 2nd Pioneer Battalion; Leo Vincent Zimmer who returned to Australia on 23 March 1919 having served with the 5th Battalion
