A NEW CATHEDRAL CANON.
The Rev. H. H. Harper.
Tomorrow night Archbishop Le Fann will instal the Rev. H. H. Harper, B.A.,Th. L., as Canon of St. George's Cathedral.
Canon Harper was elected by the recent Synod to fill the vacancy caused by the retirement, owing to continued ill-health, of the Rev. Canon W. F. Marshall, who was elected in 1910. Each of the canons' stalls is dedicated to a saint of the ancient British or the early English Church, except that belonging to Canon Hyde, for which a name has not yet been decided upon. The chair into which the new canon is to be installed is dedicated to St. David, the Patron Saint of Wales. Canon Harper took his Arts and Theological degrees at Durham University in1900 and 1901. After serving in several parishes to the North of England he joined the Brotherhood of St. Boniface at Williams in 1912. In 1917 he went abroad as chaplain with the A.I.F., and saw service in France with the 16th Battalion. On his return in 1919 he was for a short time rector of Mt. Barker. Since 1923 he has been rector of Christ Church, Claremont. He has been one of the editors of "The West Australian Church News" for eight years, and ever since his coming into the Perth diocese has assisted in training men for Holy Orders as lecturer and examiner. He has been selected as the preacher for the Armistice Day service at the Cathedral at 10.45 a.m. on Tuesday.
