The following information was provided by the St Peters Residents Association

Eric Vivian Holland MARTIN was born on 7th May 1891. His parents were Vivian Stevens & Jane Ifould MARTIN nee HOLLAND, and the family home was 4 Palm Place, off North Terrace Hackney, which is now in the grounds of St Peters College.

He enlisted in May 1915, sent to Egypt, and repatriated home in January 1916 suffering from Renal TB. On arrival back in Australia (February 1916) he was admitted to the 7th AGH, Keswick for medical care. He was discharged on 31 May 1916.

He married Jean Mitchell McNeil 1916. They had a son Ian Holland Born 1 June 1919. They resided at The Esplanade Largs Bay.

On his return he became very active in advocating for returned soldiers. Following his discharge, he worked on constructing the constitution of Returned Sailors & Soldiers Imperial League.  From Sept 1917 he was a Vice President of the S.A. Branch, the Associations representative of the State War Council, the Associations trustee in January 1918 & was also on the Cheer-up-Society’s Board.
