Arthur Wellesley Burton.
Arthur was born 18th June 1898. Fourth child of Henry James Burton and Sarah Jane (nee Philbey). He enlisted with the 43rd Battalion 7th Reinforcement in Adelaide on 20th September 1916. Embarked from Adela8ide on board HMAT A30 Borda on 23 June 1917. He was recommended for the Military Medal on 6th May 1918 and was discharged on 18 December 1918. ( The citation reads "Villiers Brettoneux on 3rd May 1918 whilst conducting a hazardous patrol near enemy Posts he surprised an enemy post which he bombed and hearing groans, believed he caused casualties./ He then returned to our posts and directed Lewis Gun fire on to the enemy posts and continued his patrol. He maintained a forward O.P. during day and succeeded in sniping several of the enemy, and conveyed to Headquarters valuable information on which we were enabled to act.
He was also in the
British army as a Lieutenant Colonel, supposedly having captured single handed a group of Germans. He was also something in the second world war. He finished up after the was living in India, then moved back to England as a General Manager of a steel works in Birmingham. He retired and moved back to Adelaide to retire. He died in 1981 22nd March
