823 WO Alick Atkinson CHAPMAN, 35 years old Chemist (Melbourne College of Pharmacy alumni 1898). Born Carlton. Enlisted 9 October 1914; Injured in France 26 January 1917 (shell made a direct hit on the tent he was in with several other soldiers). Died of Wounds, 27 January 1917. His wife and two children survived him, Glenferrie, Victoria. He was a veteran of the Boer War and reported as good friends with Major Cossar, Chief Pharmaceutical Officer.

Alick Atkinson CHAPMAN was born in Carlton, Victoria in 1880
His parents were Alexander John CHAPMAN & Rosetta Josephine HICKIE
He served in the Boer War (SN1316) Army Medical Corp for 10 months & later enlisted for WW1 on 9th October, 1914 with the 3rd Light Horse Field Ambulance & embarked from Melbourne on 2nd February, 1916 on the ship Chilkra
He married Flora McFADYEN in 1905 and had two children, Alick Ian B. 1906 & Norma Isabel b. 1909
He was promoted to Honorary Lieutenant & Quartermaster on 12th March, 1916 & transferred to the 12th Field Ambulance on 18th March, 1916
Alick was wounded on 26th January, 1917 with shell wounds to his left leg and a compound fracture to his right pelvis and died on 27th January at the 36th Casualty Clearing Station in France
He is buried in Heilly Station Cemetery, Plot VI, Row A, Grave 9 & his name is memorialised on the Australian War Memorial
