Donald Gordon Veitch was born in January 1989 in Parkside, South Australia. He lived in Therbarton, South Australia with his mother Catharine Veitch until the age of eighteen. Donald Gordon Veitch was 5 feet 8 tall, weighed approximately 50kg, had brown hair and blue eyes. He was a single young man who believed in Presbyterianism. On the 10.02.16 which was when he was 18 and 1 months old he was considered fit for active services and signed up to serve in the war.
Veitch then embarked from Adelaide, South Australia on board HMAT A60 Aeneas on the 11th April 1916. In late August he joined up with his unit, the 12th Field Ambulance. He served with them throughout the war and returned to Australia in June 1919.
