Dudley Playford Adamson enlisted twice for service. On 17 August 1915 he was at the Signal School, as a Signaller with 81st Infantry, but was discharged as medically unfit on 16 April 1916.
Undeterred he rejoined on 27 August 1917 with the 1st to 4th Signal Troops, October 1917 Reinforcements at Adelaide, SA. The Unit embarked from Sydney, NSW on board HMAT A38 Ulysses on 19 December 1917, and serving in the Base Signals Depot and Signals Office Alexandria until August 1918 when he was transferred to the Signals Squadron Mounted Division.
Returned to Australian 3 July 1919 per HT Malta.
Dudley's father was the local Policeman at Mount Pleasant, SA, at the time of enlistment and for that reason is listed on the Presbyterian Church Honor Board.
Dudley was the first volunteer from the Northern Territory to join and was a telegraphist at the Overland Telegraph Station at Alice Springs when he enlisted. He was the first Postmaster of Alice Springs in 1932 and Alice Springs first RSL President.
