Military Cross
'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. An ammunition dump was set on fire and the flames spread owing to the high wind. He at once went to the spot, and, with some assistance, eventually succeeded in extinguishing the fire, which was threatening to cause an explosion. He showed great courage, and set an excellent example to his men.'
