Edward was the third of eight children of Edward Marr Snr (b1858 in Victoria) and Mary Alice Sullivan (b1856 in Limerick, ireland). Edward Snr (a Carrier) and Mary married in March 1877 in Hughenden, QLD. Mary had arrived in Brisbane QLD in February 1877 on board the Glamus. Edward and Mary settled at Prairie in Hughenden QLD where Edward Snr was a Carrier.
When Edward was fifteen years, he undertook a four year apprenticeship in Sydney NSW as a Fitter and Turner with RA Lister & Co. He then worked as a Shearer and shearing machine expert with Federal Sheep Shearing Coy and with Peak Downs Shearing Coy in Hughendedn QLD.
In May 1915 Edward enlisted in the AIF (Gunner; Service No:30119). He served in Belgium and France with 21 Howitzer Brigade and 1st Field Artillery Battery, and was WiA on two occasions in 1917 - Gassed and severe ankle fracture. Edward was recuperating in London in 1918 when RA Lister & Coy requested his Discharge for employment as an Australian Munitions Worker. He worked for RA Lister (Australian Munitions Worker;Badge No:2780), then in September 1918 went to Birmingham to work at Wolseley Works as a Mechanic before returning to Listers in February 1919 where he instructed Australian soldiers in the use of Lister sheep shearing equiptment.
In 1922 Edward returned to Australia on board the SS Bahia Castle, disembarking in Fremantle WA where he worked for Dalgety for a short period before moving to Oakey, QLD and from there he went to South Africa. Edward returned from South Africa in 1932 on board the Talleyrand, giving his occupation as Engineer. In 1933 he married Lavinia Margaret Sullivan (nee Fickling; b1902 in the Murchison, WA). The couple moved to Kalgoorlie WA where Edward was a Government Employee until 1937 when they returned to Perth. Edward worked as a Fitter in Perth and in 1958 he and Lavinia moved to Parkerville in Mundaring WA where Edward was a Primary Producer. They retired to Mahogany Creek in Mundaring WA where Lavinia died in 1979 and Edward in 1983.
