Son of Samuel and Sarah (nee Webb) of Dale Street, Port Adelaide; brother of Samuel Jospeh Bawden who was killed in action on 7 August 1916 while serving with the 48th Battalion, Clara Bawden, Charles Henry Bawden, Percy Bawden, Ellen Gertrude Bawden, Eva May Bawden, Gladys Rose Bawden, Josapha Ethel Bawden and Clarence Roy Bawden
