Keith Altore Burton
Keith, known as “Snow, attended Kersbrook School and Millbrook State School prior to working as a storekeeper. His unit, the 13th Field Artillery Brigade embarked from Melbourne on HMAT A38 Ulysses on 27 October 1915. Keith served at Heliopolis, Cairo, in January 1916 and was sent to Ismailia, at the southern end of the Suez Canal as a bombardier with the 13th Field Artillery Brigade on 3 April. His unit was sent to France on 29 June, where he served for the remainder of the war. Keith was absent without leave from 4 April to 8 April 1919, for which he was severely reprimanded and docked 4 days’ pay.
Keith left England for Australia on 13 April and was discharged on 20 July 1919. He was awarded the 1914/15 Star, British War Medal and the Victory Medal.
The Mount Barker Courier and Onkaparinga and Gumeracha Advertiser of 29 July 1921 stated, “Murray Bridge Magistrates’ Court on Monday, Keith Altore Burton of Ponde, charged with having assaulted Mounted Constable Klar at Mypolonga, while in performance of his duty at Mypolonga Picnic Race Meeting on Saturday last” Also charged “with having hindered Police in the performance of their duty, with having used indecent language and with having acted in a riotous manner…To this charge the defendant at once pleaded guilty…The Bench imposed a fine of five pounds and two pounds costs.”
The Advertiser 30 August 1932 reported, “Along with 28 other men, K.A.Burton was charged with participating in a game of two-up at the Maid and Magpie Hotel, Stepney on July 15. The charge was dismissed due to lack of evidence.”
The Commonwealth of Australia Gazette of 19 May 1938 reported Keith was appointed Motor Driver, 4th Division with the PMG Department of South Australia. He retired from the PMG on 10 September 1959.
Keith died on 15 September 1982, aged 88 and is buried in the North Brighton Cemetery, South Australia. He was awarded the 1914/15 Star, British War Medal and the Victory Medal.

Keith Altore Burton was born in Chain-Of-Ponds, South Australia and attended Milbrook State School.
Before he enlisted at the age of 20 he was a store keeper.
Keith enlisted on the 14 June 1915 and embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A38 Ulysses on 27 October 1915. He nominated his mother Mrs Elizabeth Burton as his next of kin. His brother Robert Bethune BURTON also served in the war
Hs rank was private and his original unit was the 13th Field Artillery Brigade but later he transferred to the 9th Light Horse Regiment, 11th Reinforcement where his brother served with him.
Keith Returned to Australia 13 April 1919 and his brother returned to Australia, 3 March 1916.
