Son of William Young Veitch and Ellen Veitch of Greta, NSW. Brother of William James Blythe Veitch who returned to Australia on 6 February 1920 having served with the 34th Battalion.
Commenced return to Australia on 23 June 1919 aboard HT Orita disembarking on 9 August 1919
